Secret: Untold Melody

Korean sales agency Finecut has struck a raft of rights sales on upcoming fantasy-romance “Secret: Untold Melody.”

The film, which will premiere at the upcoming Hawaii International Film Festival, tells the tale of a man whose promising piano career is cut short by a wrist injury. He returns to Korea and falls in love with a mysterious woman at his music college. While he is encouraged to revive as a genius pianist thanks to her, a hidden secret is revealed that transcends time and space.

“Secret: Untold Melody” is a remake of the 2007 Taiwanese hit movie Secret, that originally starred Jay Chou and Gwei Lun-mei.

The Korean retread is directed by Seo You-min (“Recalled”) and stars K-pop performer-turned actor Doh Kyung-soo (“The Moon,” “Swing Kids”) and Won Jin-a (Netflix’s “Hellbound”).

Finecut has struck deals for CIS (with Capella Films), inflight (Encore Inflight), Japan (The Klockworx), Philippines (VIVA Networks, Inc.), Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei (Purple Plan), Taiwan (Moviecloud) and Thailand (GDH 559).

The film was produced by Hive Media Corp, a company best known for its genre titles including “The Inside Men,” “Deliver Us From Evil” and “Heaven: To The Land Of Happiness” Co-production was with Higround.

The HIFF organizers called “Secret: Untold Melody” a “true star-crossed romantic melodrama, [which] updates the original 2007 Taiwanese hit with tried and true Korean touches at the intersection of music and film.”

Finecut is also handling sales of the vigilante action movie “Brave Citizen” and dance drama film “Victory,” which it will launch during the Asian Contents & Film Market, that sits alongside the Busan International Film Festival.
