Synopsis | Earn as much as you work and survive on it; Jungchul’s life can be summed up to this one sentence. However, this simple proposition has always been the cause of trouble for Jungchul. After not getting paid for the work done at a construction site, Jungchul and his friend Myunghoon seek out a soybean paste factory which is the only workplace available during the winter. Jungchul, whose sole purpose is to survive, has no time to spare for others. He believes that if he only survives this winter and if he succeeds in making the promised amount of soybean lumps, he will be on his feet again. But, the more he struggles to survive, the more difficult it gets. And while Jungchul fails to pay attention, black molds begin to gather on the thousands of soybean lumps stored in the fermentation room. After all the soybean lumps go bad, everyone has to leave the soybean paste factory, and Jungchul is also forced to leave. Despite having worked harder than anyone else, there is still nothing in his hands. His cries out asking why he can’t have anything for his own, but it only echoes in the void. In the harsh winter, spring is yet to come to those who went separate ways to survive. |
